Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Christian Schools

The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled on its most important religious freedom case of the year, and they ruled in favor of a church.

Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbia v. Comer was a lawsuit brought by a Lutheran church against the director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The Missouri church operated a preschool and daycare center with a playground and sought a state grant for improving its playground. The state denied the church’s request citing the First Amendment’s establishment clause, essentially arguing that giving state money to a church-operated school and daycare center would violate the First Amendment’s prohibition that government “make no law respecting the establishment of religion.” In the Supreme Court’s ruling given Monday, the government’s argument was rejected.
