Police with the North Charleston (SC) Police Department said that in November Jacop Hazlett, a volunteer daycare provider for New Spring Church, “escorted” a 3-year-old boy into the bathroom during a Sunday service, took photographs of the child, and sexually abused him, reported News 2, an NBC affiliate. According to News 2, the alleged abuse was “reportedly caught on surveillance video.” Hazlett had been volunteering since March 2018. Further, surveillance video revealed that 14 other children may have been sexually abused by Hazlett, said an attorney for a family of one of the alleged victims.
“A month before [Hazlett] started volunteering, a former youth pastor at New Spring Church was arrested and charged with soliciting sex with a minor and exploitation of a minor,” reported News 2.
