• Does your church operate a child care facility? If so, perhaps you are aware that a major bill pending in Congress would, if enacted, significantly impact some church child care programs. The bill, known as the "Act for Better Child Care Services" or simply Senate Bill 1885, is designed to (1) provide federal financial assistance to the states to improve the quality of child care programs; (2) promote the availability of child care services; (3) provide financial assistance to families whose resources are not adequate to pay the full costs of child care services; (4) strengthen the competitiveness of the United States by providing young children with a sound early childhood development experience; and (5) lessen the chances that children will be left to fend for themselves for significant parts of the day.
