About the Survey

Are you employed by the church?

Compensation is important in ministry because “the worker deserves his wages” (1 Tim. 5:18). But how do churches and the individuals who work in them know what fair pay looks like?

We conduct the National Church Compensation Survey to answer that very question. This compensation survey—which is kept completely confidential because no identifiable information is ever published or provided—covers church employees across the US and in every church size and setting. The survey asks about church specifics, such as church size, income, setting, and location, as well as specifics of church personnel, including position, duties, hours worked, education, experience, gender, ethnicity, and more. We also survey the most important financial information and benefits, including housing allowance.

Why? We are absolutely passionate about helping churches set fair compensation for both the good of the church and the wellbeing of the person employed by the church. When you participate in the survey, you help yourself and churches throughout America set fair compensation for pastors and staff. All answers will be used in aggregate for Church Salary, a compensation-setting tool we will be launching in 2018.

Church Salary will serve as a tool for both church employers and church leaders to advocate and determine faith pay given the employee and church’s specifics and realities. Together, we can help make pay in ministry fairer and help ministry to thrive as a result.

Are results really anonymous?
Yes! Your responses are kept strictly confidential. We ask for an email address only to ensure results are not duplicated and to make you aware of future compensation-related resources, including the launch of Church Salary in 2018 (you always have the ability to unsubscribe). No personally identifiable information of any kind is associated with the results produced in our tool. The data you share will be used in combination with other responses (aggregate) for Church Salary.
