In 2016, we sat down with Senior Editorial Advisor Frank Sommerville for a conversation on church security, gun laws, and how churches might best respond to violent incidents. (Sommerville had previously recorded a video for Church Law & Tax on how conceal carry laws affect churches.) At the one-year anniversary of the shootings at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, Sommerville provided insights into the legislation at work and the strategies that church leaders might follow. Information about the various state laws was current as of May of 2022.

How do states address concealed carry in churches?
